Please advise our members that the rumours circulating about major proposed changes for Driving licence renewals for those aged 65 plus is a scam.
Concerned members have raised a news item entitled “New Zealand Driving License Renewal Rule Changes 2025 for Seniors Aged 65+”. This article states that NZ is introducing a major overhaul of it licensing system for seniors 65+. Draconian changes are claimed to include 2 yearly renewals, mandatory vision tests, compulsory medical certificates, on-road driving assessments as required by doctor or licensing staff etc.
Grey Power raised this issue with NZTA earlier in the week, and Chris Rodley, National Manager Regulatory System Design Regulatory, confirmed that a meeting between the NZTA Policy Team and the Ministry of Transport on the 15th July confirmed that there is no truth to this article. The website spreading this information is a scam and members are warned not to respond to any of their communications as they may be trying to get contact details for seniors to potentially exploit with other scams.
