GREY POWER SOCIAL SERVICES POLICY
 
 
MISSION
To try and ensure a fair and equitable deal for older New Zealanders.
 
General
All persons in New Zealand should have access to, and be accurately informed of, all entitlements, initiatives or changes that affect them. Equal opportunity must exist in all areas of Social Services to ensure a fair and equitable standard of living for all.
 
 Specific
1. A.C.C.: The original no-fault philosophy of the “Woodhouse report” to be taken as a basis for rewriting current legislation. Grey Power is committed to achieving a fair system for our elder New Zealanders.
2. C.I.R.: Grey Power accepts the principle of Citizens’ Initiated Referenda, in both central and local Governments.
3. Grey Power strives to establish and maintain positive links with Government Departments and local bodies in order to act as a two-way source of information on behalf of older people.
4. Grey Power supports Government Department staff training so that they can and do provide ALL facts, entitlements, benefits, changes or initiatives thereby ensuring that all eligible persons receive such entitlements.
5. Grey Power to be a voice for older people’s needs and to ensure the continuing availability of services to advance, support and protect older people.
6. Grey Power strives to establish, promote and foster links with kindred organizations for the betterment of older people.
7. Grey Power strives to establish, promote and foster programmes for older people, either as Grey Power initiatives or together with other kindred organizations.
8. Grey Power promotes positive attitudes when dealing with older persons, empowering them to live full and independent lives.
9. Grey Power supports the United Nations declaration ensuring the right to: dignity, care, independence, self-fulfilment and participation.
10. Grey Power opposes legislation that prejudices against older people.
