Law and order portfolio policy
Mission: To work to ensure the security and safety of all New Zealanders.
Aims and objectives:
- To address the causes of crime in our communities.
- To educate the community in its responsibility for the maintenance of law and order.
- To treat all other persons as we would wish to be treated - with dignity and respect.
- To support community projects aimed at the prevention of crime.
- To promote positive alternatives to imprisonment for those who break the law, particularly in minor matters.
- To lobby government to increase the number of drug and alcohol addiction treatment programmes available to prisoners while in custody.
- To promote the concept of restorative justice in all spheres of community life.
